Citizenship – Born abroad

The information below is for Kenyans born abroad that wish to apply for Regaining of Kenya Citizenship and/or Declaration of Dual citizenship.

If you were born before 27th August 1987 – You have to apply for both Regaining of Citizenship and Declaration of Dual Citizenship simultaneously.

If you were born after 27th August 1987 – Apply for Declaration of Dual Citizenship ONLY.

 

1. Regaining Kenya Citizenship 

• For Kenyans born either in Kenya or abroad before 27th August 1987 and who acquired other nationality BEFORE 27th August 2010.
• Please note that all applicants who apply for Regaining Kenya citizenship are also required to apply for Declaration of Dual citizenship simultaneously. (Make sure to read the instructions thoroughly and submit all the required documentations and fees).

Requirements:

1.  Regaining form duly completed Form 5 
   
2. 2 (two) copies of Kenyan passport – if you have never had a Kenyan passport, attach copy of your parent’s Kenyan passport (Biodata page only).
3.  2 (two) copies of valid Passport of the other country (Biodata page only).
4.  2 (two) copies foreign (other country) Birth certificate.
5.  2 (two) passport size pictures. (Note: Most current picture taken maximum within the last one month)
6. If your name on the American documents are different (Name on Birth Certificate different from name on foreign passport, please provide 2 (two) copies of supporting documentation e.g Marriage Certificate, Divorce decree.
7. A Money Order or Cashier’s Check of 9,360 Mexican Pesos, Payable to Embassy of The Republic of Kenya.
8. A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your documents. The envelope should have enough postage for DHL (NB: Metered stamps and Regular mail are not acceptable).

2. Declaration of Dual Citizenship

• For Kenyans above 18 years of age who are also nationals of other foreign countries (acquired another nationality AFTER 27th August 2010)
  
• A dual citizen is required to disclose her/his other citizenship within three months of becoming a dual citizen.

Requirements:

1. Applicant must be 18 years or above.
2. Declaration form duly completed Form 2 (Notarized on page 2)
3. 2 (two) copies of Kenyan passport – if you have never had a Kenyan passport, attach copy of your parent’s Kenyan passport (Biodata page only).
4. 2 (two) copies of Kenyan National ID and / or Kenyan Birth Certificate. if you never had a Kenyan National ID and / or Kenyan Birth Certificate, attach copy of your parent’s Kenyan National ID and / or Kenyan Birth Certificate
5. 2 (two) copies of valid Passport of the other country (Biodata page only).
6. 2 (two) copies foreign (other country) Birth certificate.
7. 2 (two) passport size pictures. (Note: Most current picture taken maximum within the last one month)
8. If your name on the foreign documents are different (Name on Birth Certificate different from name on foreign passport, please provide 2 (two) copies of supporting documentation e.g Marriage Certificate, Divorce decree.
9. A Money Order or Cashier’s Check of 3,990 Mexican Pesos, Payable to Embassy of The Republic of Kenya.
10. A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your documents. The envelope should have enough postage for DHL (NB: Metered stamps and Regular mail are not acceptable).
